COMPASSION FOCUSED THERAPY
Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) is a relatively new model of psychotherapy that was developed by Paul Gilbert in the first decade of the 21st century, primarily to help clients experiencing high levels of shame and self-criticism. The CFT model teaches clients to develop the skills of compassion and self-compassion to help them regulate their mood and develop feelings of safeness, soothing, inner warmth and self-acceptance. CFT uses principles from CBT along with concepts from evolutionary psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology and neuroscience.

CFT can be very helpful in the treatment of depression and anxiety, as well as self-criticism and low self-esteem.

I have completed both my foundation and advanced training in CFT and was fortunate to attend my advanced course with Paul Gilbert. I have also attended numerous workshops on CFT and it’s different applications. I am primarily a CBT therapist, but my work is often infused with CFT where appropriate.
